Symptom checklist
Varicose vein symptom checklist
Use these questions to note symptoms you would like to discuss with a clinician. They do not calculate your risk or diagnose the cause. A skin change, slow-healing sore or new swelling deserves assessment even if you have no other symptoms.
Using your notes
Review your answers and bring any concerns to your clinician. The summary is a record of what you selected, not an interpretation of the cause or severity. Few symptoms, or no selected symptoms, do not rule out a problem.
When to seek care sooner
A skin change, slow-healing sore or new swelling deserves assessment even if you have no other symptoms. A leg that is suddenly painful, hot, red or much more swollen than usual, or bleeding from a vein, needs medical attention the same day.

FAQ
Questions people ask
- I have visible veins but no symptoms. Do I need to do anything?
- Visible veins alone do not establish the cause of symptoms or whether treatment is needed. This checklist helps you note concerns for a clinician; it does not weigh or grade your answers.
- Can varicose veins be prevented?
- Family history and age cannot be changed, but regular walking, avoiding long periods of standing still, managing body weight and using compression during pregnancy or standing work can reduce symptoms. Whether treatment is worthwhile is a question for assessment.
